Yes. I went and fell for a new fandom, of another dead show, natch. Eureka. Fortunately only about six months dead, so I hope there are still readers out there. And, for the first time since LFN, I had new fic burst into my brain and demand, DEMAND I tell you, to be written. And then it turned out to be a crossover. With Hawaii 5-0. Knock me over with a feather, people. It was wonderful!

Because I'm actually working on something, this sounded like fun!
(Yes, it is one of the old LFN WIPs, part of the long runing project to brush all of them out of my brain pan by actually finishing them so I can move on.)
Believe it or not, it was Medieval AU that stepped up and demanded that Nikita's story in this universe be finished and offered ideas about how to accomplish that. This isn't actually page 7, that's all really old stuff, but rather, page 7 of the new work. So here are lines 8-14, from the seventh page of new work.

(On the other hand..... that was the weirdest little two episode Chin B plot evah, so, yeah. All the strange clews-about-Steve's-dad-in-brown-envelopes aside, I'm not really thinking that this show running team is much with the planning ahead.) ((All though, thank heavens, boring, wooden Kono romance sub plot C boy was not in evidence. And I did like all Kono's glaring - at Chin Ho, at Jenna, at Steve, at, well, everything. She has an awesome angsty glare. *g*)) (((I'm going to need an H50 icon I think!)))

Thoughts on the CW Nikita
Oct. 22nd, 2010 12:47 pmI watched it last night (no Fringe! No Olivia - Alt or Original flavor!).... and I have to say, on the one hand the characters are growing on me, but on the other..... OMfreakingG, how I dislike the relentlessly *personal* motivations of Nikita, Alex and Niktia's new sort of helper Owen.

For Reals. I'm reading Susan Douglas's latest Enlightened Sexism: The Seductive Message that Feminism's Work is Done (2010, Times Books), and our gal gets several shout outs in the chapter, "Warrior Women in Thongs."
The bulk of the analysis in this chapter is actually for Xena and Buffy -- but Nikita, Max and Sydney get a paragraph each (so do Lara Croft and Charlie's Angles, turn of the millennium flavor.) The argument in the chapter is that these women were at once truly kick-ass, and yet lot was done to make sure that emotionally and in everything but hand to hand combat, hyper feminine and very definitely NOT LIKE MEN.
I haven't finished the whole book yet, but so far I'm enjoying it -- if you know it, it's like the sequel to her book Where the Girls Are about media culture and feminism 1950s-1980s.
