Minor meta blathering
Jul. 10th, 2007 09:53 pmSo, yeah, I read all (many?) of the recent metafandom threads on women characters and fanfiction, much of which was centered around PoTC and Elizabeth.
And I just have to blurt a minor rant. On one of the 'yeah, so what if I dislike all female characters and hold them to different standards than men, its my prerogative' response lj entries to Fabu's post, some chick said - and I paraphrase baldly - 'well, I just don't like Elizabeth because she seems like the type of woman to flit from man to man.'
First - taking more words to write 'slut' doesn't mean you didn't say it.
BUT, more importantly, Second - did she not see the same film I did? The one where they establish in the first quarter of the first film that Elizabeth has loved/wanted Will Turner - and only Will Turner - since she was a child? And then in the rest of the series, all of her major actions and choices are driven by her desire to save his life/be with him?
Gah.
