So - here's my report on this year's undergraduate fashion choices.

The girls/women are still wearing tight to tighter low rise jeans with tight tees - but now the tees are mostly all quite long - ending up somewhere around the hip line, so (thank goodness) no sharing in public that unsightly skin roll that was so prevalent a few years back, even on slim girls as it has more to do with many sit ups vs. none than basic body type; or glimpses of the backs of thongs..... ewww.

The knit guacho retains some popularity - and, much to the horror of the fug ladies if they knew - I have caught sight of several big, wide belts - including one that a slender young woman had inexplicably fastened on just under her boobs - despite wearing one of those hip-length tight tees over the knit guachos. Tiny sweaters and vests remain popular - including one tiny vest I saw today with a high, stand up collar. Because when your bared midriff (no roll - lots of sit ups - I'd advertise it too) is cold, at least your neck will be warm. Or something. Also spotting continuing difficulty with matching bra to outfit, unless I'm supposed to see the black racer back bra straps under the pink halter top. ? Isn't the point of the halter top to show off a bare back? Did I miss a memo?

The boys remain as boring as ever - loose jeans and loose tees. Baseball cap optional. Though the jeans are - slowly - getting less loose, so at least I no longer have to worry that they will simply fall off altogether and lead to an embarassing hallway trip.

In further fall news, though I know that data is not the plural of anectdote - my section of the 'introduction to college' course has 24 boys and 6 girls. My two upper level history classes - even the one on US social history of the 19th century - are also majority boys. The death/dearth of white college boys may be some what over-hyped. IMO. And IMExperience.

Oh thank you, this time of the year I really miss teaching.

I think it isn't a case of matching bra and shirt, but in color contrast -- bras are clothing items rather than underwear, and so are meant to be seen. And apparently slips are clothing as well, with the same multitude of straps that you noticed with the bra/shirt thing.

Interesting observation about gender demographics in your classes -- I wonder if there is something about the department/discipline and/or school involved in that. My field is always majority woment, but I've noticed more men in academic programs over the last few years. Haven't worked out why yet...
