So, I've finished the first two seasons and I'm still in love with Buffy. *vbg*

I also love everyone else - but especially Cordelia and Drusilla (and poor Jenny). Not that I'm in the slightest bit predictable, of course .... ;-)

I'm assuming, btw, that spoilers for ancient series aren't really an issue, but it is behind a cut anyway....

I have a question, for those who know the series better. Does it ever explain (and if it does, I can wait) why most vampires seem remarkably stupid and beast-like (and usually 'vamped out') and willing to do whatever smarter vampires (aka as Angelus or Spike or the master) tell them to do?

(And that Angelus counts as a 'smarter' vampire is really saying something! If there was ever a creature who needed to be reading that old email list of top ten things not to do if you're going to rule the world as an evil overlord.... *g*)

Spike and Drusilla in particular seem almost human, in that they are motivated by human-seeming passions, needs and desires - including for Manchester United.... I could see that her insanity/second sight might work against whatever it is that eats the souls - and apparently brains - of those that become cow-like vampires, but what explains Spike? Canon, or merely fanon?

I think the general explanation is that people who are in the credits get a personality. ;-) As far as I remember, there's not really an exploration on the larger scale of what happens to people when they get vamped, and how much of their original personality they retain. We do get to see quite a bit about specific characters, though.

Are you planning to watch Angel as well? The spinoff picked up at the beginning of Buffy's fourth season, and there are a few crossover episodes.

Ah. Yes. I did wonder if that was the case.... *g* I don't know why I gravitate to wondering about these things - I suppose it's my lifelong habit as a scifi/fantasy reader to be interested in the world building. One of the things that has frustrated me most since Serenity came out is that the Reavers now make absolutely no sense - the explanation Joss provided, while suiting his big-brother vision of the central planets - raised way more questions than it could answer. Like, just fer instance, what the hell have the Reavers been eating all these years hovering uselessly in space over a planet full of resources? Why aren't they dead from simple starvation plus radiation exposure? And where are they getting fuel for their ships, exactly? And who is keeping their engines running, such as they are? Reaver-Kaylees? Doesn't really track.....

The Reavers were - IMO - waaaay creepier when we knew less about them, but the implication was that they were a complete and self-sustaining, if very scary and eerie, culture with their own very high discipline and sense of purpose. Like when they killed all the people on that colony ship without disrupting a single piece of furniture, or taking the food supplies - and yet set a nasty trap for the next ship to dock.

Reducing them to insane and randomly violent people as a result of drugs gone awry is far less interesting. For me, of course. *g*

Anyway, I expect I will watch Angel - I have too many friends who liked it not to give it a try!

So, how about that final fight in Becoming II, huh? So.much.love for the Angelus arc.

And I second [livejournal.com profile] nestra's rec for Angel. You must watch Angel as well.

I will watch Angel.

The final fight was very nice - and Buffy's reaction to the re-appearence of Angel was beautiful.

Of course, I still adore Spike and Drusilla. I also understand, beyond the cheekbones, the attraction that fuels the Spike fangirls - Spike operates from unclear motives and impulses - you could tweak him in hundreds of different ways, which is fascinating. Angel *and* Angelus are by comparison really straightforward characters.

YAY!

Angel does not really become a fascinating character till he gets his own show. You'll know it soon, when you give it a try. He's my favourite vampire. *g*

Sigh. I love Spike (especially when he's with Angel), don't get me wrong, but the writers insistence on making it All About Spike (S7 is all about 'feel sorry for Spike! feel sorry for Spike! feel sorry for Spike! did we mention you should feel sorry for Spike?) irritated the hell outta me. Buffy/Spike, however, does not do it at all for me - unless you also add Angel in the mix. Then it's the best ship ever!

Okay - I know I'm going through my LFN DVDs really, really, really slowly - but as I got S4 for my birthday, I'm back to finish S3.....

And howcum no one ever told me that Drusilla is on LFN?!!!!!!! Or talks about it????

Drusilla is Sarah, OMG! I had never seen that ep, btw, until today.......

Heh. Give me a chance to catch up - I only just finished S2, and, well, not really seeing the Buffy/Spike thing. Spike is deeply obsessed by a scary insane vampire seer lady, and Buffy with emo-Angel. Not really seeing much of a hook-up, overlap sort a thing, there, yet. lol!

I did, however, coo, when Spike called Angelus a ninny. ;-)

You're turning out to be quite the Evilista. I'm not sure how you'll react to later Spike. *g*

PS - Angel S2 has some gorgeous Dru screentime.

You're just trying to make sure I watch it, aren't you. ;-)

BTW - have an excellent flight(s) and safe traveling and dealing with all the getting settled stuff. Go you for the big new adventure!
